Instant Goddess lounges in style

This week Instant Goddess is LOVING the latest resortwear collection from Vamastyle which was showcased at the Vamastyle pop up shop in Sheung Wan over the weekend. The latest collection is called Tropicale and has the best lightweight print trousers Instant Goddess has come across this season, a knock-out jumpsuit which amazingly works on most body shapes, fantastic shorts in peach leopard plus a winning palm tree print in almost everything your summer wardrobe could possibly desire!

Before we get started though, I should caveat these photos with the fact that although the designs look great on screen I can’t emphasise enough how good they look in the flesh: the cut works and the print pops!

So..the hero trousers…so comfortable, so lightweight and so breezy…oh and did I mention so flattering?!

1. VSCollage 1A

Top: Montauk tribal pants $1007.73 teamed with matching Innika blue swimsuit $736.42, bottom left: Beach Daze tote $465.11 and bottom: El Kabron kimono $930.21 teamed with Innika Swimsuit (left) and (right) Montauk tribal pants above and Wategos cross back camisole $736.42

Now onto the knock-out Parker jumpsuit in a palm tree print with a super flattering cut – if you don’t believe me – try it!

2. VSParkerJumpsuit

Parker jumpsuit $1317.80

If jumpsuits aren’t your thing then fear not the palm tree print comes in easy breezy, fabulously comfy shorts and a camisole that will look great teamed with your favourite skinnies as well as the shorts pictured below…two looks for the price of one that’s what we love!

3. VSPalmTreeShorts

Left: Beach Daze Tote $465.11 and Right: Wategos palm tree print camisole $736.42 teamed with Shek O palm tree shorts $736.42

Onto the next popping print…it’s peach leopard…again the shorts are a must…so easy to run about town in or perfect poolside.

4. VSPeachLeopardShorts

Shek O peach leopard shorts $736.42 teamed with Point Yamu Bikini $736.42

Alas, the pop up shop is now over but fear not you can buy everything online and Vamastyle founder Kaitie is super helpful on sizing and returns (if need be). There’s also another pop up shop coming soon so be sure to follow Vamastyle on Facebook to stay updated.

Shoe of the Week

The gong this week has to go to the BCBGeneration Darron Pump inspired by the Valentino Rockstud but far, far kinder on the pocket! Available in yellow, turquoise, pink, red, cream and black you really are spoilt for choice and the saying “If the shoe fits buy two pairs” was made for the Darron Pump, especially as they cost a mere USD $79.95 (approx. $620 HKD). Buy them online from DSW, Designer Shoe Warehouse.

5. Darron Collage

Shipping notes: to have the Darron pump shipped to Hong Kong you need to use a MyUS account which gives you your own US postal address. Your order will be shipped to this address by DSW and then forwarded on by MyUS to your HK address. It only costs USD $10 to set up a standard account with MyUS and although your shipping to HK is charged in addition to this…believe me at these prices the Darron will still work out at a mere drop in the ocean compared to the mighty Valentino Rockstud.

Alternatively, tap one of your State-side friends up and get them to pop your Darrons in the post to you.

6. Spring Quinoa Risotto

This week after all the indulgence of Easter it’s all about treating that body like a temple again with healthy meals bursting with vegetables. And on this quest to get back to that temple, I’ve stumbled across the Helmsley and Helmsley cookbook: The Art of Eating Well which is all the rage back in the UK. Helmsley and Helmsley is a London based food business set up by two sisters: Jasmine and Melissa Helmsley, who love to cook healthy or in their words have a passion for “nutrient-dense cooking”. As well as a bestselling cookbook they even have designed their own Spiralizer (you know the thing that makes your courgettes into spaghetti) and they regularly contribute to UK Vogue with their recipes.

So very on message, I give you their Spring Quinoa Risotto yep using protein packed quinoa instead of your traditional rice in a risotto. It’s packed with great flavours and a good hit of your daily five.

Instant Goddess enjoys the free shipping and full fat bling

This week Instant Goddess has found a new show-stopping jewellery label based here in Hong Kong and available on ETSY but wait for it at VERY affordable prices. Jazaar is the name of the label and of course Instant Goddess is besotted!

J Crew…we love you

What’s there not to LOVE about J Crew’s free shipping and returns to Hong Kong?! Yes, I know we have our very own J Crew store here in the IFC, but let’s face it, it’s a tad on the small side and so too are the range of sizes on offer. Whereas online you have the full collection and range of sizes plus not forgetting all from the comfort of your armchair.

Instant Goddess is very much liking the sound of the Minnie pant, billed as J Crew’s “magic pant” as it’s “sleek, chic and slim fitting” and “it goes with just about everything” which sounds like an Instant Goddess hit if there ever was one. Perfect for this time of year and of course, we’re liking that it comes in a stretch twill for maximum comfort with a side zip for that smooth finish at the front.

Mango Magic

This ethnic beaded jacket popped into my inbox this week…new in from Mango and reminding me of the lesser spotted Mango in Hong Kong. Although you’re hard pressed to find a Mango store these days in Hong Kong, you can in fact buy online. And if you currently buy 2 or more items you get an extra 20% off with the code 6EXTRA1.

Shipping notes: shipping costs $100 and is free if you spend over $1500 and takes 2-5 working days.

Bead ethnic jacket $599 also available in blue from Mango

River Island makes a swim for it

If you have a holiday on the horizon and need to top up your beachwear, River Island’s holiday shop is well worth a visit. It screams Ibiza, Versace, and more Ibiza thanks to its collaboration with Pacha which promises instant poolside glamour. Worthy of particular note is the fine selection of standout one pieces plus fab cover-ups…ooh and don’t forget the embellished flat sandals, also extremely noteworthy!

Top left: Green scarf print mesh insert swimsuit £35 (approx. $400), top right Gold reversible beach bag £28 (approx. $320), bottom left Embellished sandals £35 (approx. $400) and bottom right Print baroque print jersey kaftan £30 (approx. $345) all from River Island.

Shipping notes: standard delivery takes up to 10 days and costs approx. $120

Shoe of the Week

The gong this week has to go to Jimmy Choo’s Cinderella slipper given the launch of Disney’s latest Cinderella movie last week which whipped my four year old daughter and all her pals into a very excited frenzy. It has to be said that, us mums, were pretty excited too and not disappointed.

Notwithstanding the jaw dropping price, how comfortable can these jewelled encrusted numbers, really be?! Given my own extensive personal experience of tottering in jewel encrusted shoes, I’d say they’re probably hard as a board with all that stiff gem work. But if the shoe fits (and you have a Prince in your sights)…buy two pairsafter all it’s fashion not function, Princess!

And, yep, we’re still on the Red Carpet Detox, (yes yawn…Instant Goddess is officially boring herself now) BUT we are still managing to find tasty and oh-so-very healthy recipes. Could this be a diet for life? This week we’ve been lapping up the Roasted Pollock with Parsnip Chips and Mushy Peas! Yum!

For more recipes, check out the recipe section on the Detox Kitchen.

Instant Goddess OD’s on the red carpet…

Back-to-back trash TV and more red carpet detoxing…finally we may have OD’ed! And so it has been a very quiet few weeks at Instant Goddess HQ but the fashion radar is still working (just about). So what landed on the screen this week?

Top of the Instant Goddess fash chart this week has to be this wonderful grey embellished jacket from Monsoon – just perfect for this time for year.

Photo 1Jade embellished jacket in grey £99 (approx. $1182) from Monsoon.

Shipping notes: Monsoon ships to Hong Kong and takes 5-9 working days, it costs £5.95 (approx. $70) or shipping is free over £75 (approx. $895). Express shipping is available for £20 (approx. $240) and arrives in 3-4 working days.

Shoe of the Week

Photo 2 Kitten heeled studded shoes $399, Zara

Great with denim, the kitten heeled studded shoes above from Zara, could give you just the fashion pick-me-up you’re looking for in the day. Low enough to be comfortable for day wear and who knows you might even be able to break into a trot about town. They also come in nude and at a price like $399 you could even buy a pair in each colour if you can’t make up your mind.

Did you know? That the Zara app is well worth downloading as you can check in-store availability for your size and which store has availability nearest to you. So no more wasted trips to Zara scouring the shelves for that much wanted item.

Oooh and just one more word from Zara…the necklaces and scarves are definitely worthy of note at the moment.

Photo 3

Left: Dress in mid blue $599, top right: colour print scarf $259 and bottom right: shiny crystal necklace $399 all Zara

Lady in Red

Yes, Yes… I know we covered red dresses last time in homage to Valentine’s and CNY but this one got through the net or maybe Dotty P’s were late to the party? Anyway, if you’re still in the market for a very affordable red dress then look no further than good ole Dorothy Perkins from the UK. And if you play your cards right you could even bag yourself a discount…join their mailing list and they almost have weekly discount code offers.

Photo 4

Red embellished cut-out dress £38 (approx. $454)

Shipping notes: Dorothy Perkins ship to Hong Kong. Shipping costs £10.50 (approx. $125) and takes up to 8 working days and express delivery costs £20 (approx. $240) and takes up to 3 working days.

The last word…

The last fashion word this week goes to River Island, another UK high street stalwart, with these new arrivals for Spring you’ll definitely have a spring in your step.

And, yes, back to that Red Carpet Detox, after falling off it over CNY, we got right back on it…but Instant Goddess is getting to the point where she’s even beginning to BORE herself now (and no-one likes a diet bore particularly when it’s yourself) so we may be going back to black (so slimming you know). This week we particularly enjoyed the Aubergine stuffed with cherry tomatoes and quinoa.

Instant Goddess falls off the red carpet

Red is definitely the colour of choice in the Instant Goddess household this week…what with being on the Red Carpet Detox plus Valentines is fast approaching and Chinese New Year is a-knocking…this week’s Instant Goddess has to pay homage to all things red (and pink and orange).

Whether you’re crazy in love or not, surely everyone deserves a little fashion pick-me-up this Valentine’s Day?! And if you’ve missed the online boat for Valentine’s there’s still some goodies to be had on the Hong Kong high street and there’s definitely time to get your fashion fix for Chinese New Year. Fastest finger on the mouse, Goddesses and a hop, skip, jump down the high street!

As for falling off the red carpet…read on to find out more.

Photo 1Left: Sportmax Code dress with lace panel and embellishment $2727.31; top right: ASOS wide belt A line skater dress $681.83 and bottom right: Naretta black patent heeled shoes with goldtone hardware $1818.20 all available on ASOS

I’d never given Sportmax Code, part of the Max Mara family, much of a second glance but I couldn’t help but notice the eye-catching dress above. Ok, it might be a little more than you want to pay, but after all it’s still designer but certainly not with such a hefty price tag…only a little hefty!

If you’re after more bang for your buck, then check out Zalora (Asia’s answer to ASOS). Zalora have pulled together a special Chinese New Year Collection at prices so good for Hong Kong you won’t believe them! I’m loving the pink Emperor’s shadow Cheongsam below and there are some great dresses in the collection too – see the collage below. Delivery is fast… so you definitely have time for Valentine’s!

Photo 2Left to right: Emperor’s shadow Cheongsam top $239 Zalora; Blazer with combined lapel $899 from Zara; Sportmax Code t-shirt with embellished neckline $1590.93

More Zalora dresses and outfits below from the Chinese New Year Collection – definitely worthy of closer inspection.

Photo 2aAbove: all from Zalora’s Chinese New Year Collection

But of course, we couldn’t put ASOS in the corner when it carries such stunning dresses as the one below. Often ASOS get criticised for clothing that’s not well finished and of cheap quality. But I find if you stick to their premium collections you’re definitely not disappointed for the price.

Photo 3 Left: ASOS Premium cutwork midi skater dress $1,287.89 and bottom right: Leather biker jacket $1899 from Zara

A last minute entry to the red hall of fame comes in the form of this rather fabulous dress from newbie Hong Kong label SAU.

And finally if you’re not wanting to go the whole hog with the red theme…maybe just a little nod with a red accessory here and there will give you just the pop you need.

Shoe of the Week

Evelyn shoe by Miss KG, Kurt Geiger £85

Once again Kurt Geiger wins the Shoe of the Week gong! I can’t help myself…but the question is: Do I like these more than the Ennis featured last time? And teamed with this belted jumpsuit from Massimo Dutti below you definitely have a winning combination for date night.

And, yep, we’re still on the Red Carpet Detox, despite a little collision at the weekend involving a bottle of champagne, a bottle of white and a bottle of red (did the Instant Goddess drink all 3…now that would be telling?!) But suffice to say, that little trip off the Red Carpet put the Instant Goddess firmly back on it! This week we particularly enjoyed the Thai Green Curry with Chicken.

Instant Goddess says: “Hallelujah!”

January is almost over…hallelujah! After all the frivolity and sparkle of December, and then the early detox and self-denial of tedious January…this week’s blog has to be all about daytime looks because God forbid that we should ever want to go out again!

So this is what landed on the Instant Goddess shopping radar this week…credit card space permitting of course after all the expense of the holiday season!

Collage 1

Top left: Grey bomber jacket reduced to $197 worn with black cigarette pants $378 both ASOS; top right Orange and grey slouch bag (it’s reversible too!) £75 (approx. $875)  from River Island; bottom left Whistles Cornel heeled court shoes $2121 from ASOS and bottom right: Aztec print collarless jacket £75 (approx. $875) from River Island

The tops below will also work well with the cigarette pants above and hey presto you can go from day to night in a flash with the blue Cornel heels above.

Collage 2

Left: Warehouse floral woven front top $454 and right: Oasis shadow butterfly jumper $575 both available on ASOS

The nautical stripes below are always a good way to inject Spring-like freshness into a weary Winter wardrobe…and so Instant Goddess is loving the easy daytime looks below from Monsoon and Marks and Spencer.

Collage 3

Top left: Lulu stripe jersey jacket £59 (approx. $690); top right Daphne lace top £45 ($526); bottom left Navy quilted cross body bag £18 (approx. $210), River Island and bottom right Striped tunic dress from Marks and Spencer £49.50 (approx. $579).

For that special occasion, the eye catching floral print prom dress below is certainly worth stashing in the wardrobe for fun days to come. Tough it up with the blue leather and suede bomber jacket below.

Collage 4

Left: Floral full prom skater dress by Chi Chi London $879; top right Biker jacket in blue suede and leather $1969 and Whistles silver crackle point toe heeled mule shoes $2425 both ASOS

The Return of the Kaftan

Because summer WILL be here again and because we WILL be going on holiday again one day soon…it’s always worth having a kaftan or two on standby. The kaftans below from Monsoon are definitely worth snapping up.

Collage 5

Top left: Anya kaftan dress £69 (approx. $806); top right WOW Azure Tote Bag £39 (approx. $420); bottom left: Lara Leaf Sandals £35 (approx. $410) and bottom right: Koko kaftan dress £69 (approx. $806).

Shoe of the Week

If these Ennis shoes by Miss KG from Kurt Geiger are the shoe of the week then the tasselled trousers have to be the trousers of the week!  Alas, the tasselled numbers are yet to hit House of Fraser stores but keep ‘em peeled as they say and should be able to click and go before you know it.

This week in the Instant Goddess household, I’m afraid to say, that despite our best efforts of shunning Dry January we have just this week succumbed to The Red Carpet Detox by Lily Simpson of the Detox Kitchen recently serialised in The Sunday Times. Well after all, Oscars season is almost upon us and an Instant Goddess should always be ship shape for the Red Carpet…you never know when you might be called on!

What I’m loving about this Detox is that you can actually eat on it! And I’m also loving the recipes that introduce tasty fruit and veg combos perfect for those that have got in a vegetable rut including pizza crust made from cauliflower. Yes, you do cut out alcohol (eeek!), wheat and dairy but it’s only for 3 weeks and if you do stick to it you should see marked improvements in your skin, energy levels and oh yes weight loss…some people have seen up to 5lbs a week! Weight loss aside you just feel healthier instantly for eating so much more fruit and veg in your daily diet. You also get a mid morning snack (juice) and then usually fruit and nuts in the afternoon. So…go out, buy yourself a juicer (easily cheaper than the price of most juice cleanses in Hong Kong) and get on the Red Carpet Detox!

For more recipes, check out the recipe section on the Detox Kitchen.

Instant Goddess is fighting fit…

Call me old fashioned but given it’s the first blog of 2015, Instant Goddess is going to have to touch on work-out gear…yes, yes, I know, but it’s probably the only time of the year that we will talk about sportswear, so bear with me and best foot forward Goddesses!

For basics in Hong Kong you can’t go wrong with Cotton On and if you subscribe to their mailing list you currently get 30% off your first online order. Shipping is free over $800. Nike and Addidas brands are available on ASOS and Next which means you can get hold of often hard-to-come-by trainers in larger sizes (up to a UK 9). Shipping on both ASOS and Next is free but Next deliver quicker in only 4 working days as opposed to 10 days with ASOS. House of Fraser have a cracking selection of sportswear and a new favourite is Lorna Jane an Aussie brand with its catchy slogans and vibrant use of colour. Shipping costs approx. $120 and takes up to 10 days with House of Fraser. Limited items by Lorna Jane are also available on Zalora. Another brand that caught the Instant Goddess roving eye is Phat Budda available on Shopbop for its quirky but practical designs.

Collage 1Left: Lorna Jane Pria Excel Zip Through £59 (approx. $690), top right: Lorna Jane Wake Up and Run Tank £29 (approx.$340) both House of Fraser and bottom right: Pink/Navy Kanadia Trainers $734 from Next

Collage 2Left: Addidas Originals Zebra Leggings $379, top right: Nike Just Do It leggings $454.55 both from ASOS and Active Zip Thru Jacket $229 Cotton On

Collage 4From left to right: Nike boyfriend sweatshirt $575.76 ASOS, Lorna Jane Fit Tank £29 (approx. $340) and Lorna Jane Animania Sweat Tank £49 (approx. $573)

Grey Days

Amazingly, Instant Goddess is still nursing a wee bit of a shopping hangover after over doing it on Black Friday and Cyber Monday but if one were to throw shopping caution to the wind for those grey days these would hit the old shopping trolley:

Collage 5From left to right: Grey leather look faux fur gilet £60 and grey leather stud fringed tote bag £100 both River Island and Grey boots reduced to $999, Zara

Daytime Posh

And if you’re all for being super-duper organised and have a summer wedding coming up or are just looking for a bit of daytime posh to spruce up your wardrobe then maybe these might tickle your fancy.

Obviously, with all the workout gear above and with most of us feeling the strain of all that festive gluttony it just HAS to be something relatively healthy this week. So, Instant Goddess is very much liking the look and taste of this Roast Salmon with Pesto Sauce and Beetroot Slaw over on BBC GoodFood.

Instant Goddess OD’s on Black Friday and Cyber Monday

After all the excitement of Black Friday and Cyber Monday the Instant Goddess must confess that she has a wee bit of a shopping hangover! But have no fear the show will go on… despite reaching saturation point, Instant Goddess still has some shopping suggestions up her sleeve for you. As for her, the credit card will stay firmly anchored in the purse…promise!

Kaftan Cool

If you’re going away somewhere hot for Christmas then surely it has to be a Christmas kaftan?! Instant Goddess is pleased to report that there’s a new, affordable kaftan label on the HK fashion scene: KAFTAN by Wendy Yu. A year or so ago, Wendy gave up her day job in tax, threw caution to the wind and went off travelling around Asia discovering many fashion treasures on her way that she’s now ready, willing and able to share with us Hongkongers.

Photo 1 Kaftan CollageEach kaftan is lovingly handpicked by Wendy (above bottom right) and the focus of the current collection (top left) is to take you effortlessly from day-to-night with gorgeous kaftans sourced from India. Kaftans from the day-to-night collection are priced at $950. Kaftans from the summer collection (bottom left) are available on request and are priced at $550, email for more details.

KAFTAN will be at the following Christmas fairs:

  • PMQ night market @ PMQ Central on 12 December (6pm – 11pm) and 13 December (4pm – 11pm)
  • Conrad Christmas Fair on 15 December (10am – 8pm)

These Seafolly kaftans may also be of interest and are available on ASOS:

Photo 2 seafolly CollageLeft: Utopia kaftan in red (also available in blue) $727, top right: Plantation kaftan (also available in white) $1001 and bottom right: Sound wave drummer kaftan $818 (love the name!) all from Seafolly on ASOS.

And if all this talk about scant kaftans is sending a shiver down your spine and you’re looking for some Winter wardrobe options then another local label LUVMYDRESS may have the answer. I popped along to their annual Christmas Pop-Up party last week and loved the Winter jackets plus the sparkle here and there with sequin and embellished dresses, oh and the faux leather jeggings were so affordable at $250 a pop it would have been shopping stupidity not to have snagged a pair.

Photo 3 LUVMyDress CollageTop left: Geometric sequin dress $815, top right: Navy blue sequin jacket $1335, bottom left: White jacket $890 and One shoulder off blue dress $660

Tucked away down Po Tuck street (yes, pun intended) in Sai Ying Pun, LUVMYDRESS’ studio shop is well worth a visit to find affordable fashion gems. Together with designer inspired pieces, the owner Pui Pui, also has some very good fashion connections enabling her to source designer samples and pass them onto us at massively reduced prices. Alas sample means that usually the sizes are on the small side but Pui Pui does have other pieces up to a size L.

LUVMYDRESS is open from Monday to Sunday 10.30am – 9.30pm at Ground Floor, 23 Po Tuck Street, Sai Ying Pun

You can also buy online at LUVMYDRESS

I first looked at ZALORA in the early days of its launch back in 2012 and I wasn’t that impressed as it seemed to be a bit scant on clothes that would pass the Instant Goddess test. However, I got invited to Zalora’s first fashion show in Hong Kong the other week to celebrate the launch of Zalora Marketplace. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Zalora, it’s a bit like the Asian version of ASOS but on a smaller scale.

With the emergence of some heavy hitters like Miss Selfridge, River Island, New Look and Dorothy Perkins on the main part of ZALORA the site is now definitely worth a second look. As well as recognisable brands, Zalora, also has its own line with designs that would pass the Instant Goddess test this time around! In particular, the prices are so keen that it would be rude not to peruse further but alas the sizing is not so keen and remains limited to smaller sizes rarely going above a UK size 14.

Photo 5 zalora Collage 1Left: Luxe midi pencil skirt $369 with MDS Collections jewelled box top $179, top right Dorothy Perkins embroidered jacket $849 now $679 and bottom right: CPS long sleeve embellished blouse $499

ZALORA’s fashion show that I went to was to celebrate the launch of the marketplace on Zalora similar to ASOS’s marketplace where individuals get to showcase their designs and also a great opportunity for us to discover untapped local talent for unique finds that not every Tom, Dick and Harry will be wearing on the HK party scene.

On marketplace Instant Goddess is liking the look of this party dress by ANNE F…see what you think:

Melt the butter and oil in a large saucepan over a high heat. Cook the chicken in batches for 3 minutes, or until lightly golden and just cooked through. Remove from pan and place to one side until needed.

Reduce the heat to medium and stir in the garlic, leek, celery, bay leaf and thyme. Cook for 2 minutes, or until the leek softens. Add the stock, sherry and 500ml (17fl oz/2 cups) of water and stir to combine. Add the corn and potato and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 1 hour, skimming and scum off the surface. Cool slightly.

Remove the bay leaf and puree the soup in a blender. Return to the pan and add the cream and chicken. Stir over a medium heat for 2-3 minutes, or until heated through. Season. Serve with extra cream and garnish with chives.

Serves 4-6.
